He's almost 100% back to his old self. For those of you who didn't know
about Schotzi... we thought he had a stroke but thankfully it was a
middle ear infection.

WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

"How will you spend eternity -- Smoking or Non-smoking?"

What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is not the source your pleasures that wage war in your members? You lust and do not have; so you commit murder. And you are envious and cannot obtain; so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures. You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture speaks to no purpose: "He jealously desires the Spirit which He has made to dwell in us? But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, "God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble." Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be miserable and mourn and weep; let your laughter be turned into mourning, and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you. Do not speak against one another, brethren. He who speaks against a brother, or judges his brother, speaks against the law, and judges the law; but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law, but a judge of it. There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the One who is able to save and to destroy; but who are you who judge your neighbor?

James 4:1-12

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

Proverbs 15:1

Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not give the devil an opportunity.

Ephesians 4:26-27

"FOR EVERY MINUTE YOU ARE ANGRY,
YOU LOSE 60 SECONDS OF HAPPINESS."

This quote is from Our Daily Bread - February 2005 Issue.

"For where two or three have gathered together in My name, there I am in their midst." Matthew 18:20

CROCHET STITCH or TECHNIQUE

(A different crochet stitch and/or tip featured in each issue...
to be added later to the Crochet Basics page)

Hump of the Chain

Each crocheted chain has a top loop and a bottom loop on the front side and on the back there is a little "hump". When you make a foundation chain (the chains made to begin your project) the front side of the chain will look like little hearts sitting on top of each other. When you flip the chain over to the back side it looks like a little row of humps. If you work into the "hump" of each chain on the foundation chain you will have a nicer finished edge on that end than if you work into the top loop of each chain.

CROCHET TIP

Try adding beads to your crochet project. Simply slide the beads onto your yarn before you begin and then each time you want a bead just pull it down as you do your stitch.

Re: Reading

Dear Lisa, I am thankful to have found your site. Tonight I will try to see whether the instructions can be followed by me. Recently I got a pattern but could not find anyone at Joanne Fabrics in Chicago who knew how to read patterns. Several people crocheted, but evidently double stitches or single stitches. I will write tomorrow. Thanks a lot. Yvonne Walker

Hi Yvonne:

Thanks for stopping by and feel free to visit often! Sorry you didn't find someone to help with your pattern at Joanne Fabrics. You'd be surprised at how many people can crochet but have no idea how to read a pattern :o) If you have a question about your pattern language just let me know. I'm happy to help.

What a wonderful way to spread the Word of God's love and redemption plan for mankind! I will pray for you and your website to reach many. I like the crochet patterns too, which is why I came to this site in the first place. God Bless, Joanne

Hi. I'm teaching myself to crochet in maternal grandmother's honor. I quilt in respect to my paternal grandmother. Thankfully, they are both still here with me and I hope to be able to finish a crochet item for my Maw Maw. I've already finished the quilt. Donna

I had to take a moment and comment on your clear and easy to understand plan of salvation!! It really warmed my heart to see and it and see there are people out there who aren't secret agent or closet christians. Keep up the good work. I am totally impressed. May Christ richly bless you for fulfilling the great commission! You really made my day. Thanks.

Valerie

HUMOR

A Florida officer pulls over an eighty-year-old teacher because her hand signals were confusing. "First you put your hand up, like you're turning right, then you waved your hand up and down, then you turned left," said the officer. "I decided not to turn right," she explains. "Then why the up and down?" asks the officer. "Officer," she sniffs, "I was erasing!"

"An abstract noun," the teacher said, "is something you can think of, but you can't touch it. Can you give me an example of one?" "Sure," a teenage boy replied. "My father's new car."

My wife and I were browsing in a crafts store when I noticed a display of country-style musical instruments. After looking over the flutes, dulcimers and recorders, I picked up a shiny, one-stringed instrument I took to be a mouth harp. I put it to my lips and, much to the amusement of other shoppers, twanged a few notes on it. After watching from a distance, my wife came up and whispered in my ear. "I hate to tell you this, honey, but you're trying to play a cheese slicer."

A large flywheel company, feeling it was time for a shakeup, hired a new CEO. This new boss was determined to rid the company of all slackers. On a tour of the facilities, the CEO noticed a guy leaning on a wall. The room was full of workers and he wanted to let them know that he meant business! The new CEO walked up to the guy leaning against the wall and asked, "How much money do you make a week?" A little surprised, the young fellow looked at him and replied, "I make $300.00 a week. Why?" The CEO then handed the guy $1,200 in cash and screamed, "Here's four weeks' pay, now GET OUT and don't come back." Feeling pretty good about himself, the CEO looked around the room and asked, "Does anyone want to tell me what that goof-off did here?" From across the room came a voice, "Pizza delivery guy from Domino's."

Once when the power went off at the elementary school, the cook couldn't serve a hot meal in the cafeteria. She had to feed the children something, so at the last minute she whipped up great stacks of peanut-butter and jelly sandwiches. As one little boy filled his plate, he said, "It's about time. At last -- a home cooked meal!"

Confiding in a co-worker, I told her about a problem in our office and my fear that I would lose my job. She was concerned and said she would pray for me. I know she keeps a list of the ten people she believes need her prayers the most, so I asked if she had room for me on her list. "Oh, yes," she replied. "Three of the people have died."

The waitress comes over and recognizes the family seated at the table; Mr & Mrs Smith and their little son. Jonathan. She says, "Jonathan, what would you like?" He says, "I'll have a grilled cheese sandwich." She says, "Jonathan, I'm sorry, we don't serve grilled cheese sandwiches." He says, "You have a grill, don't you?" She says, "Yes." He says, "You have cheese, don't you?" She says, "Yes." He says, "You have bread, don't you?" She says, "Yes." He says, "Well, I'll have a grilled cheese sandwich." This kid is three years old!! The waitress says, "Jonathan, I'll go see if the chef will fix you a grilled cheese sandwich." She comes back in a little while and says, "Okay, Jonathan, the chef agreed to fix you a grilled cheese sandwich. I forgot to ask you, though, what you want to drink." He says, "I'll have a milkshake." She says, "Jonathan, your parents have probably already told you we don't serve milkshakes." She was ready for him this time. She says, "Now, it is true we have milk. And it is true we have ice cream. But we don't have the syrup." He says, "You have a car, don't you?"

Smith goes to see his supervisor. "Boss," he says, "we're doing some heavy house-cleaning at home tomorrow, and my wife needs me to help with the attic and the garage, moving and hauling stuff." "We're short-handed, Smith," the boss says. "I can't give you the day off." "Thanks, boss," says Smith. "I knew I could count on you!"
