GENERAL NEWS

Dear Subscriber:

I hope you are finding tons of time to crochet.
I love sitting down with a crochet project and watch a good movie... especially on a rainy day.

With days getting longer and my loving to sleep in on Saturday mornings I designed a Sleep Mask
for this issue. Make one for yourself or for the person in your life that needs some zzz's during
daylight hours.

School is nearly finished this year (7 more days).
I wanted to give Haley's teacher a nice gift. I bought her a cute little figurine but wanted something
to go with it so I made the Teacher's Coaster for her... hope she thinks it's as cute as hubby does :o)

WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

"Never give the devil a ride; he will always want to drive."

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; and this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world. You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. They are from the world; therefore they speak as from the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God; he who knows God listens to us; he who is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

1 John 4:1-8

Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.

James 1:2-6

Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am being tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death. Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. Every good thing bestowed and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation, or shifting shadow. In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we might be, as it were, the first fruits among His creatures. This you know, my beloved brethren. But let everyone be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God. Therefore putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls. But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in the mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.

James 1:12-24

And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

Romans 8:28

And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:19

"NO AFFLICTIOON WOULD TROUBLE US
IF WE KNEW GOD'S REASON FOR PERMITTING IT."

"For where two or three have gathered together in My name, there I am in their midst." Matthew 18:20

MULTIPLE OF 16 + 2

Question:

I bought a book with crochet patterns in it.
I was wondering what it means when it says
foundation: multiple of 16 chains plus 2.
Thank you Sandy

Answer

this means your foundation chain can be any number as long as that number is divisible by 16... then you add 2 more chains to that number to make the pattern work up correctly.

-------

Question:

Hi, Could you tell me how to cast off when you are making granny squares.

Thanks you Jan

Answer

Once you finish your last round by slip stitching to join the round...
all you do is:
1. cut the yarn leaving about 3-4 inches.
2. yarn over and pull the yarn tail through the loop and tighten it. This secures the end.

CROCHET TIP

I keep scraps of yarn in gallon zip lock bags.
Some projects take a very small amount of a color and holding on to your scraps just might keep you from having to purchase an entire skein of yarn for a small amount.
Also, keeping the yarn in the bags helps you see at a glance if you have the color you need.

Re: your website

Re: Happy Easter

I just looked at your new webpage and decided to send you a quick note. I think it is wonderful that you proclaim your religious beliefs and encourage others to welcome Jesus into their hearts. After attending an Easter prayer service, breakfast at church, choir program on Jesus' resurrection; my husband, our daughter, and her wiener dog Frankfurter, and I went to my parents home and celebrated with them, and other family members. We just got home and I checked my email and saw your name on my list. I knew before I looked that you would have a special message for Easter Sunday and I was so glad that you did. God bless you for your work for Him! Keep up doing the Lord's work until He comes to call us home.

Your friend in Christ, Marsha Walters

RE: Thank you

I just printed off all of the baby bootie patterns on your site. I just wanted to say Thank You for providing these. My mom is quilting baby blankets for disadvantaged children in the Puget Sound area and she asked if I could make booties to donate also. I appreciate finding such great (and easily understandable) patterns on the web! Keep up the good work! Thank you Again, Stacie

RE: Dog Sweater

WHAT ARE THE NAMES OF THE 3 WISEMEN?????

Jane E.

< reply >

The Bible doesn't say their names and it doesn't state specifically that there were three of them.
The following page says that Christian tradition holds that the Magi were named Balthazar, Gaspar and Melchior... but I believe we should stick with the actual Bible text:

I have to tell you about this new book.
SweaterBabe.com's Fabulous & Flirty Crochet
I'm so happy to have it in my crochet library.

Katherine Lee has an eye for style and a definite knack for creating beautiful crochet patterns.
I was really happy with the large colorful project photos.
There's something for everyone!
The aspect of Fabulous and Flirty Crochet that stood out to me was the section on the yarns used in the patterns.
One page shows "actual size" photos of the yarns which makes it super easy to substitute other yarns if you want to.
For those who stay strictly to the recommended yarn in a pattern Katherine has included a yarn resource list.
The projects are very fashionable and perfect for gift giving... though I'm sure you'll have to make something for yourself :o)
I can't wait to try the Flirty Skirt and the Ruffled Strap Tank.

HUMOR

We moved into an apartment while we were looking for a place that would let us keep our pets. We could not have our pets at our apartment, so my brother-in-law kept our cat for us until we could find a place that would let us keep him.

One day he came home after dark and saw the cat on the porch eating. He reached down to pet him and while he was petting him he looked over toward the fence where he saw MY cat sitting. Looking back around to see what he was petting he realized that it was a raccoon that had came up to eat the cat food. After that the cat was fed in the house.

A Civil War soldier, who had lost his bayonet, whittled one from wood so that he could pass inspection. He hoped he would not be discovered until the regiment had gone into battle, where he planned to pick one up from a dead soldier.

At inspection, an officer asked to see his bayonet. The soldier stated, "Sir, I promised my father I would not unsheathe my bayonet unless I intended to kill someone with it."

The Officer insisted that the soldier hand over the bayonet.

Taking it out, the soldier looked skyward and said,
"May the Lord change my bayonet to wood for breaking my vow."

Jane had a system for labeling homemade freezer meals.

She would carefully note in large clear letters, "Meatloaf" or "Pot Roast" or "Steak and Vegetables" or "Chicken and Dumplings" or "Beef Pot Pie."

Everyday when she asked her husband what he wanted for dinner, he never asked for any of those meals. She decided to stock the freezer with his various requests. What he really likes.

In Jane's freezer now you'll see a whole new set of labels. You'll find dinners with neat little tags that say: "Whatever," "Anything," "I Don't Know," "I Don't Care," "Something Good," or "Food."

No more frustration for Jane because no matter what her husband replies when she asks him what he wants for dinner, it's there waiting.

I was tidying up the house but finding the task difficult because of a pulled muscle in my lower back. As I was collecting the trash, something fell to the floor. Taking a deep breath and trying to ignore the pain, I stooped to retrieve the item. I couldn't help laughing when I realized it was an envelope marked "Do Not Bend."

An airliner flew into a violent thunderstorm and was soon swaying and bumping around the sky. One very nervous lady happened to be sitting next to a clergyman and turned to him.

"Can't you do something?" she demanded angrily.

"I'm sorry ma'am," the Reverend said gently, "I'm in sales, not management."

Never having learned to ride a bicycle as a child, I finally decided to do it in my late twenties. My boyfriend, William, offered to teach me, and we headed to the park for my first lesson. He held on to the seat as I wobbled down a path. My self-consciousness was just beginning to disappear when I saw a father, teaching his little daughter to ride a bike, approaching.

As we passed, I was mortified when William said to the dad, "They grow up so fast, don't they?"

I was self-conscious about going to the gym, because I thought the pounds I had put on would make me stand out among the spandex-clad regulars. I chose a treadmill in the corner so I'd be inconspicuous. However, as I exercised, my worst fears came true. At least a dozen people turned to stare at me periodically. I thought it might be my imagination, but then one woman even squinted to get a better look. Mortified, I stepped off the machine to leave. When I turned around, I realized that the gym's only wall clock had been hanging just inches above my head.

My husband, Cal, grew increasingly displeased as our teenage daughter and her boyfriend studied in her room late one evening. Finally losing patience shortly after midnight, he knocked sharply on her door. Her boyfriend immediately opened it and asked if something was wrong.

"I have to ask you to move your car," Cal told him.

"Oh, sure. Is it in someone's way?"

"No," Cal replied, "it's at the wrong address."

"Last night I lay in bed looking up at the stars in the sky and I thought to myself,
'Where on earth is the ceiling?!'"
