WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve, as do the rest who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, and remain until the coming of the Lord, shall not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hodl fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.

1 Corinthians 15:1-5

"The hope of Christ's coming can keep us going."

This quote is from Our Daily Bread - September, 2001 Issue.

I would just like you to know that my thoughts are with you and all of
America at this very sad time.

patriotic ribbon----thank you very much for the pattern. I needed
something quick and simple, the angels
were nice patterns that I found, but took too long with thread to make
many. I will be trying to make some
of these for the people at school that I work with and friends if that is
ok with you. Barb Bailey in FL

<reply> By all means... make as many as you would like to give out.

I love your ribbon. I don't know if I would make it due to carpal tunnel on my wrist. But I wanted to thank you for sharing. I would put a little cross or angel in the center of the ribbon.

Blessings to you and yours. Bea.

I love the pattern. Thanks for sharing. It's really nice and quick, so we can make up oodles of them to hand out!! One thought, you can also use a post-type earring to put through where the material crosses over! I thought of it because I have an old star shaped earring that I lost the mate to. I like it and hated to toss it. This will work great. Thanks again!

I did not find any errors, I just wanted to thank you for sending this in.
It is so hard to find anything red, white and blue. Cannot even get regular
ribbon :-). I am going to make this though - some crocheter I am, huh? I
never thought about crocheting one until I saw your pattern.
Thanks again for sharing.

Ohhh, your puppy is sooo cute! I have a schnauzer too.
She is all black. I hope I can make her a sweater that she will wear, she refuses any I have bought!
I'd like to tell you thank you for all that you do for all of us, I appreciate you very much. :)
Keep happy thoughts.
God love ya!

I'm from Australia and I would dearly love the metric equivalent of Crochet Hook size H.
Australians' hearts go out to those in America following the aftermath of terrorist attacks.
Keep up the good work and God bless.

<reply>
Dear Heather:
An "H" hook is a metric #5.
The following page will help you in the future with the hook equivalents.

Thanks for all the crochet lingo explanations. I was doing pretty well on my pattern until I came to, "slip st in first ch-1 sp."
I had no idea what "ch-1 sp" meant until I found the explanation on your page!
THANK YOU!!
Tricia Ptak

Dear Lisa,

I saw the picture of "Oscar" with your sweater pattern. I too have a mini dachschund "Buddy Boy" and he loves to wear "clothes". With the recent tragic national events, I wanted to make a patriotic sweater for him, especially since it's beginning to get cooler. I used your sweater pattern but couldn't get it to fit right. (He looked like he was wearing a tank-top with a skirt!) Fortunately, Ginger our Lhasa Apso looks great in it! I have attached a picture of her. I tried attaching yarn bows to the blue section for stars but I didn't like it. Maybe I'll embroider some on later.

Ginger

I then designed a pattern for Buddy Boy (picture attached).

Buddy Boy

If you want me to send you my directions (such as they are) I'll be glad to share them. I just
haven't written them down yet and couldn't wait to show you the pictures.

I love your newsletter and look forward to each issue.

Thank you,

Jenny Lewis

HUMOR

Parenthood!

A man was driving along a rural road one day when he saw a three
legged chicken. He was amused enough to drive along side it for a
while, as he was driving he noticed the chicken was running 30 mph.

Pretty fast chicken, he thought, I wonder just how fast it can run.
So he sped up and the chicken did too! They were now moving along the
road at 45 mph! The man in the car sped up again, to his surprise the
chicken was still running ahead of him at 60 mph!!!

Suddenly the chicken turned off the road and ran down a long driveway
leading to a farmhouse. The man followed the chicken to the house and
saw a man in the yard and dozens of three legged chickens. The man in
the car called out to the farmer "How did you get all these three
legged chickens?"

The farmer replied, "I breed 'em. Ya see it's me, my wife and my son
living here and we all like to eat the chicken leg. Since a chicken
only has two legs, I started breeding this three legged variety so we
could all eat our favorite piece."

"That's amazing!" said the driver "How do they taste?"

"Don't rightly know, can't catch 'em."

Fisherman's Luck

Jim had an awful day fishing on the lake, sitting in the blazing sun all
day without catching a single one. On his way home, he stopped at the
supermarket and ordered four catfish. He told the fish salesman, "Pick four
large ones out and throw them at me, will you?"
"Why do you want me to throw them at you?"
"Because I want to tell my wife that I caught them."
"Okay, but I suggest that you take the orange roughy."
"But why?"
"Because your wife came in earlier today and said that if you came by, I
should tell you to take orange roughy. She prefers that for supper tonight."

A Day In Sunday School

A Sunday school teacher was teaching her class about
the difference between right and wrong.

"All right children, let's take another example," she said.
"If I were to get into a man's pocket and take his billfold
with all his money, what would I be?"

Little Johnny raises his hand, and with a confident smile,
he blurts out, "You'd be his wife!"

Two men went bear hunting. While one stayed in the cabin, the other
went out looking for a bear. He soon found a huge bear, shot at it
but only wounded it.

When the enraged bear charged toward him, he dropped his rifle and
started running for the cabin as fast as he could. He ran pretty fast
but the bear was just a little faster and gained on him with every
step. Just as he reached the open cabin door, he tripped and fell
flat.

Too close behind to stop, the bear tripped over him and went rolling
into the cabin.

The man jumped up, closed the cabin door and yelled to his friend
inside, "You skin this one while I go and get another!"

A car was involved in an accident in a street. As expected a

large crowd gathered. A newspaper reporter, anxious to get

his story could not get near the car.

Being a clever sort, he started shouting loudly, "Let me

through! Let me through! I am the son of the victim."

The crowd made way for him.

Lying in front of the car was a donkey.
