GENERAL NEWS

Dear Subscriber:

Happy Halloween

Our little Morkie, Stitch, had hernia surgery in July.

Stitch

He has had swelling that I thought was surgery related.
Upon visiting the vet last week we found that he has cancer and is retaining fluid.
He is on lasix now and seems to be doing some better.
Prayers for our little fur baby would be greatly appreciated.

WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

"Even if it's a little thing, do something for those who need help,
something for which you get no pay but the privilege of doing it.

~~ Albert Schweitzer ~~

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

“The purpose of life is not to be happy.
It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate,
to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”

― Ralph Waldo Emerson

For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me. Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, "Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You drink? And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? And when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?" And the King will answer and say to them, "Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.

Matthew 25:35-40

And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" And He said to him, "What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?" And he answered and said, "YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF." And He said to him, "You have answered correctly; DO THIS, AND YOU WILL LIVE." But wishing to justify himself, he said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?" Jesus replied and said, "A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho; and he fell among robbers, and they stripped him and beat him, and went off leaving him half dead. And by chance a certain priest was going down on that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. And likewise a Levite also, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, who was on a journey, came upon him; and when he saw him, he felt compassion, and came to him, and bandaged up his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them; and he put him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And on the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, "Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I return, I will repay you." Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers' hands?" And he said "The one who showed mercy toward him" And Jesus said to him, "Go and do the same."

Luke 10:25-37

And so, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. And beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do in word of deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.

Colossians 3:12-17

"HEAVENLY FATHER, HELP ME TO BE FILLED WITH YOUR MERCY,
SO THAT I MIGHT SERVE THOSE IN NEED
POWERFULLY AND CHEERFULLY, REVEALING WHO YOU ARE .
"

This quote is from Our Daily Bread - October, 2020 Issue

"For where two or three
have gathered together in My name,
there I am in their midst."
Matthew 18:20

CROCHET STITCH or TECHNIQUE

(A different crochet stitch and/or tip featured in each issue...
to be added later to the Crochet Basics page)

GAUGE

Gauge refers to the measurement of stitches and rows contained in a stitch pattern sample. Always begin your gauge swatch with the recommended hook size and yarn then adjust the hook size as needed. Be sure to make your swatch large enough to get a proper measurement.

To measure the stitch gauge... lay the ruler horizontally across the work.
Row gauge... lay the ruler vertically across the work.

The measurements of your gauge swatch lets you know if your gauge meets what is recommended for your pattern. If it doesn't measure up like the pattern says then you should adjust your hook size accordingly...
too many stitches in your measurement... switch to a larger hook
too few stitches... switch to a smaller hook

Keep in mind... if your project isn't for a garment or an item that needs to be the approximate suggested size in the pattern instructions... then checking the gauge isn't as critical.

Are you still producing and sending out programs?
Thanks! Eileen

Hi Eileen:

I am still here. However, due to an issue with the email service as well as the extra cost I am no longer using an email service for the newsletters. The link for each new issue is posted on the Crochet N More Facebook page as well as other social media.

Thank you so much for asking. Happy Sunday to you also!

Crochet Tip:

BE CREATIVE: Don't be afraid to try different types of materials. I've crocheted with regular yarn, specialty yarns, fabric, embroidery floss, thread, & rope to name a few. You can create very interesting items when you change the material used in a project.

There are some things I can’t stand to work with. I don’t like the feel of it lol, it’s a tactile issue.

Crochet Tip:

Keep small crocheted gifts such as a dish towel-dishcloth set, a set of coasters, a doily, baby afghans, etc., on hand. This way if you need a gift in a hurry you will be spared the time it takes for shopping.

Have always had a quick "gift stash" like that -

HUMOR

crotoon

Two elderly women were trying on shoes in our store. When I slipped a shoe onto one woman's foot, the end of my tie got caught beneath her heel. Unaware of my predicament, she stood up and started toward the mirror. For a few seconds, I found myself crawling along the floor beside her, trying to get her attention.

"Look, Martha," her friend said. "he wants to go home with you!"

My son David had just turned eight and was old enough to go
fishing at the local fishing hole on his own. While he loved
fishing, he knew little about how the fish got from the pole
to the table.

One day I arrived home to find a note he'd left on the
counter: "I caught three fish. Can you peel them for me?"

The young man ahead of my father at the flower shop was taking an unusually long time to place his order. When the clerk asked how she could help, he explained that his girlfriend was turning 19 and he couldn't decide whether to give her a dozen roses or 19 roses -- one for each year of her life.

The woman put aside her business judgment and advised,

"She may be your 19-year-old girlfriend now, but someday she could be your 50-year-old wife."

The young man bought a dozen roses.

While vacationing in Alaska, I couldn't help but notice all the warnings about bears posted in campgrounds, visitors' centers, and rest areas, advising people not to feed the bears, how to avoid bears, what to do if a bear sees you, what to do if a bear attacks, and so on.

My favorite, however, was a hand-lettered sign on the door of a small gas station in a remote area. It said: "Warning! If you are being chased by a bear, don't come in here!"

A man, in a hurry taking his eight-year-old son to school,
made a turn at a red light where it was prohibited.

"Uh-oh, I just made an illegal turn!" the man said.

"Aw, Dad, it's okay," the son said. "The police car right
behind us did the same thing."

I was at the airport, checking in at the gate when an airport employee asked, "Has anyone put anything in your baggage without your knowledge?"

To which I replied, "If it was without my knowledge, how would I know?"

He smiled knowingly and nodded, "That's why we ask."
