WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety upon Him, because He cares for you. Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world.

1 Peter 5:6-9

Do not be anxious then, saying, 'what shall we eat?'or 'what shall we drink?' or 'with what shall we clothe ourselves?' For all these things the Gentiles eagerly seek: for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious for tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Matthew 6:31-34

"THE MORE YOU THINK ABOUT GOD'S GOODNESS,
THE LESS YOU'LL THINK ABOUT YOUR WORRIES."

This quote is from Our Daily Bread - February, 2002 Issue.

American women have their own special eye for style and taste. They like apparel that has unique qualities and meets their needs for comfort and multi-purpose use. And we understand that. We also understand that value and customer service are important in the lifestyle of active, busy women who must often wear many hats. You want quick delivery . . . you like free shipping. And you don't have a great deal of time to be changing clothes several times in a day for multiple activities. You need versatile separates that travel well from work, to dinner with friends, to PTA meetings. And the good news is . . . we've got it all right here!

CROCHET STITCH, TECHNIQUE or TIP

(A different crochet stitch and/or tip featured in each issue...
to be added later to the Crochet Basics page)

If you know of any stitch I have omitted from our basics pages please drop me a line.

This crochet stitch courtesy of Shannon.

DOUBLE CROCHET DECREASE:

Work a dc in the next stitch without completing the very last step (leave
the last two loops on the hook), then dc in the next stitch without
completing the last step. You should have three loops on the hook then yarn
over and draw through all the loops. Decrease made.

This simply looks like two dc stitches joined at the top.
To decrease over more than 2 stitches do each stitch within the last step of
completion and then draw through all loops on the hook at the end.

You can find this and many other stitch abbreviations and instructions on my
Crochet Basics page:

Re: ReadAPattern
THANK YOU for a fantastic page!!!
It was very helpful for me, the new crocheter, when the picture in the book just didn’t make sense!

I've been trying to figure out forever if I should weave in or cut off the ends of my finished projects. I always weaved them in before but found that they kept popping back out, so unfortunately the last afghan (a complicated kitty kat pattern with constant color changes) I made I just cut them off. I had to go back in and tie off each end where I had changed colors and I'm afraid that the entire afghan is going to unravel where I have not done this. Now, after reading your wonderful tips, I realize that they should be woven in and that I had been doing it correctly before. I wish I had found this site before. You are doing a great service for fellow crocheters.

Thank you, Sherry

I've just have to say Thank You so much! This is the best website I've ever visited!
My mom and I have been looking for crochet dishcloth patterns and have been directed every which way but to what we were looking for. Then I found your site! WOW!
You've thought of everything and then some, I'm really impressed and so very grateful for your efforts. I've bookmarked this and I bet you hear from me again on a "how to."
Happy New Year!

Which is it?: Question.

My Suggestion/Question is:: this is such a simple question.when you work in the round and you join with the slip stitch, then you ch 1,(if the pattern said).then you work around ,where do you make the join, do you go in that very last st,and then join in the top of the ch1.would you end up with a straight seam,or one that curves.do you have a web site that i could actually see where how to join

ANSWER: I received this message and the email address was incomplete. I am posting the answer here just in case others have been wondering the same thing. When working in the round using single crochet stitches you can either join each round, chain1 and turn, OR keep working one single in each single around placing a stitch marker as you go to keep count of the rounds. If you choose to chain 1 and turn for each new round there will be a diagonal line in your project. To omit the diagonal joining line you must work in a continuous round by placing the marker at each round and continuing by working one single in each single.

First Day of School:

A child comes home from his first day at school.
The mother asks, 'Well, what did you learn today?'
The kid replies, 'Not enough, so they want me to come back tomorrow.'

Mary and Jill met at a local coffee shop and were having a heart-to-heart
chat about relationships.

Jill said, "I can't understand why men are so afraid of commitment!"

Mary stated in agreement, "Tell me about it! I dated one guy for a year
and a half, and I finally had to give him an ultimatum."

"What did you say?" asked Jill.

"I just told him, 'Look, either you tell me your last name, or it's
over!'" replied Mary.

What Does This Do?

Two youngsters were closely examining bathroom scales on
display at the department store.
"Have you ever seen one of these before?" one asked.
"Yeah, my mom and dad have one," the other replied.
"What's it for?" asked the first boy.
"I don't know," the second boy answered. "I think you stand on
it and it makes you mad."

Turn About's Fair Play

Bernard, who is noted for his gracious manners, was
awakened one morning at four forty four a.m. by his
ringing telephone. . .

"Your dog's barking, and it's keeping me awake,"
said an angry voice.

Bernard thanked the caller, and checked the caller I.D.
for which neighbor had called.

The next morning at precisely four forty four a.m.,
Bernard called his neighbor back . . .

"Good morning, Mr. Williams.... Just called to say that
I don't *have* a dog."

An English prof at Vassar was urging his freshman students to build a
large vocabulary. "Say a word over to yourself out loud five times and
it will be yours for life," he suggested.

A freshman girl in the front row closed her eyes and said
ecstatically, "Jason, Jason, Jason, Jason, Jason ..."
