WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things. The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things; and the God of peace shall be with you.

Philippians 4: 7-9

For our heart rejoices in Him, because we trust in His holy name. Let Thy lovingkindness, O Lord, be upon us, according as we have hoped in Thee.

Psalm 33:21-22

But let all who take refuge in Thee be glad, let them ever sing for joy; and mayest Thou shelter them. That those who love Thy name may exult in Thee. For it is Thou who dost bless the righteous man, O Lord, Thou dost surround him with favor as with a shield.

Psalm 5:11-12

"WHEN LIFE IS FILLED WITH SHADOWS, FACE THE SUNSHINE OF GOD'S LOVE."

This quote is from Our Daily Bread - January, 2001 Issue.

CROCHET STITCH, TECHNIQUE or TIP

(A different crochet stitch and/or tip featured in each issue...
to be added later to the Crochet Basics page)

If you know of any stitch I have omitted from our basics pages please drop me a line.

CROCHET STITCH/TECHNIQUE:

I have featured the Reverse Single Crochet stitch before but recently I've had several requests regarding this stitch so I decided to feature it once again.

REV SC
REVERSE SINGLE CROCHET (a/k/a CRAB STITCH)

A reverse single crochet is worked from left to right; whereas a regular single crochet stitch is worked from right to left. Insert your hook into the stitch or space indicated, then yarn over and pull up a loop. (You should have two loops on your hook.) Yarn over and draw through both of the loops on your hook. This stitch takes a bit of practice but the outcome is well worth the effort.

CROCHET TIP:

For a motivational boost while working on a larger project such as an afghan... each day when you sit down to crochet, place a stitch marker in the first stitch you work. Once the marker is in place you can continuously refer to the marker to see just how much you've accomplished. This actually motivates me to see just how much I can do each day... Lisa

VIEWER TIP

Being back is so wonderful. I liked the past issues that you let me know about in your letter.
I have come across a little "helper", if you will, it's a nice woven basket, that flowers come delivered in, with a handle. I use it to carry my crocheting in and being medium size, it doesn't take up much room. In the bottom, there is a rather large floral oasis that is glued to it. I left it in and use it to put my crochet hooks and knitting needles that I am using at the time of the project. They stay securely in the basket that way so I don't have to worry about dropping them when I go out to the car or at a friend's when I visit.

WE'RE RUNNING OUT OF STITCHES TO FEATURE!
If you have a stitch or tip you'd like to see here
drop us a line and include "STITCH/TIP" as the subject.

Please include your name and/or state of residence if you'd like to be recognized for your submission.

VIEWER FEEDBACK

NOTE: Any comments left on the CNM website or sent via email may be posted here.

Thank you for putting together a fantastic site. I've visited a lot and yours is very easy to negotiate around in. Thanks too for the wonderful patterns.

Maggie

Hi, just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your site.I work in the recreation dept. at Tenn. Prep School. This is a school for dependent and neglected children. All of your letters, stories and poems have given me a great idea for the kids here on Sunday morning. I also see to it that they have Sunday school and worship services here at TPS. I teach one of the classes myself. I'm going to start a youth leader group for the kids. I want to use the stories, poems and letters for them to read each sunday at the beginning of our worship services. All of the things I read from your site are fantastic!!!!! Thank you so much for posting these.

Re: Hanging Toilet Tissue Cover Pattern

Thank you so much for this pattern! I just made one for my sister, and it is so pretty! I used Simply Soft yarn and a size H hook. I made the main part with dark blue, and the ruffle with white. I also made her a matching tank cover and lid cover! She loves it! She says her bathroom looks so feminine now! Well, thanks again! Kathryn =)
P.S. I enjoy your website... I think you do a great job at it!

I am in "Crochet Heaven". Thank you for the free patterns, several of
which I thought I would never find. Can't wait to try them out.

Thank you very much for your help. I printed the instuctions and took them home with me and had great success with the double treble stitch. My project is coming along great now. Thank you so much for your help and for your entire web site. I looked over your site after you emailed me back and realized that you had instructions for alot of the stitches. I loved it. Thank you again for your response back to my email and for helping me.
Have a great day! :)

HUMOR

The old gent was backing his Rolls into the last available parking space when a zippy red sports car whipped in behind him to take the spot. The young driver jumped out and said: "Sorry Pops, but you've got to be young and smart to do that." The old man ignored the remark and kept reversing until the Rolls had crunched the sports car into a crumpled heap. "Sorry son, you've got to be old and rich to do that!"

"Open wider," requested the dentist, as he began his examination of the patient.
"Good Grief!" he said startled.
"You've got the biggest cavity I've ever seen -- the biggest cavity I've
ever seen."
"OK Doc!" replied the patient. "I'm scared enough without you saying
something like that twice."
"I didn't!" said the dentist. "That was the echo."

The local parish priest was making a visit to a family
in the neighborhood. He knocked on the door, and a
little 4-year-old boy answered the door.
The child, recognizing the priest, yells his dad,
"Hey, Dad! That guy that works for God is here!"

I didn't know if my granddaughter had learned her colors yet,
so I decided to test her. I would point out something and ask
what color it was. She would tell me, and always she was correct.
But it was fun for me, so I continued.

At last she headed for the door, saying, "Grandma, I think
you should try to figure out some of these yourself!"

Mothers Advice To Famous kids:

*PAUL REVERE'S MOTHER: "I don't care where you think you have to go,
young man. Midnight is past your curfew!"

*MARY, MARY, QUITE CONTRARY'S MOTHER: "I don't mind you having a garden,
Mary, but does it have to be growing under your bed?"

*MONA LISA'S MOTHER: "After all that money your father and I spent on
braces, Mona, that's the biggest smile you can give us?"

*HUMPTY DUMPTY'S MOTHER: "Humpty, If I've told you once, I've told you a
hundred times not to sit on that wall. But would you listen to me? Noooo!"

*COLUMBUS' MOTHER: "I don't care what you've discovered, Christopher. You
still could have written!"

*BABE RUTH'S MOTHER: "Babe, how many times have I told you -- quit
playing ball in the house! That's the third broken window this week!"

*MICHELANGELO'S MOTHER: "Mike, can't you paint on walls like other
children? Do you have any idea how hard it is to get that stuff off the
ceiling?"

*NAPOLEON'S MOTHER: "All right, Napoleon. If you aren't hiding your
report card inside your jacket, then take your hand out of there and
prove it!"

*CUSTER'S MOTHER: "Now, George, remember what I told you -- don't go
biting off more than you can chew!"

*ABRAHAM LINCOLN'S MOTHER: "Again with the stovepipe hat, Abe? Can't you just
wear a baseball cap like the other kids?"

*BARNEY'S MOTHER: "I realize strained plums are your favorite, Barney,
but you're starting to look a little purple."

*MARY'S MOTHER: "I'm not upset that your lamb followed you to school,
Mary, but I would like to know how he got a better grade than you."

*BATMAN'S MOTHER: "It's a nice car, Bruce, but do you realize how much
the insurance is going to be?"

*GOLDILOCKS' MOTHER: "I've got a bill here for a busted chair from the
Bear family. You know anything about this, Goldie?"

*LITTLE MISS MUFFET'S MOTHER: "Well, all I've got to say is if you don't
get off your tuffet and start cleaning your room, there'll be a lot more
spiders around here!"

ALBERT EINSTEIN'S MOTHER: "But, Albert, it's your senior picture. Can't
you do something about your hair? Styling gel, mousse, something...?"

*GEORGE WASHINGTON'S MOTHER: "The next time I catch you throwing money across
the Potomac, you can kiss your allowance good-bye!"

*JONAH'S MOTHER: "That's a nice story, but now tell me where you've
really been for the last three days."

*SUPERMAN'S MOTHER: "Clark, your father and I have discussed it, and
we've decided you can have your own telephone line. Now will you quit
spending so much time in all those phone booths?"

*THOMAS EDISON'S MOTHER: "Of course I'm proud that you invented the
electric light bulb, Thomas. Now turn off that light and get to bed!"

"An abstract noun," the teacher said, "is something you can think of, but you can't touch it. Can you give me an exampleof one?" "Sure," a teenage boy replied. "My father's new car."
