GENERAL NEWS

Dear Subscriber:

Just a reminder... Crochet N More only uses two addresses:
lisacro@kih.net (notes and/or replies from Lisa)
or
crochetnmore@reply.ms00.net (used to send the CNM Newsletter)

I received an email earlier this month that said it was from "support@crochetnmore.com"... there is no such address! The body of the email said,

"We regret to inform you that your account has been suspended due to the violation of our site policy, more info is attached. "

Obviously the attached portion could be a virus.
Remember!
I never send attachments to anyone without first letting them know I'll be sending them.

Visit the Crochet N More Message Board.

Post a request on the board if you are looking for a pattern or visit to help someone who is.

WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

TO KNOW THE BIBLE IS GOOD; TO KNOW ITS AUTHOR IS BETTER!

The Five Finger Prayer

Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.

Proverbs 16:3

Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praises. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him. Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain; and it did not rain on the earth for three years and sic months. And he prayed again, and the sky poured rain, and the earth produced its fruit.

James 5:13-18

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Let your forbearing spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things. The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things; and the God of peace shall be with you.

Phillipians 4:4-9

Rejoice always; Pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

"IT'S NOT THE WORDS WE PRAY THAT MATTER,
IT'S THE CONDITION OF OUR HEART."

This quote is from Our Daily Bread - June, 2005 Issue.

"For where two or three have gathered together in My name, there I am in their midst." Matthew 18:20

CROCHET STITCH or TECHNIQUE

(A different crochet stitch and/or tip featured in each issue...
to be added later to the Crochet Basics page)

BROOMSTICK STITCH

Question:

A woman in my office learned something she remembers as the "broom stitch" from her mother (now deceased) when she was a child. She can't remember how to do it now, but she says it produced beautiful work. Can you tell us how to do it? I can't find instructions anywhere on the internet.
Stephanie J. Goldberg

Answer:

Dear Stephanie:

You can find a really good tutorial at the Crochet Cabana:
http://www.crochetcabana.com/specialty/ltc-broomstick_lace_jiffy_lace_.htm
South Bay Crochet offers Broomstick Lace Techniques and Tips on this page:

Lovely in Lace Hat :
http://bythehook.blogdrive.com/archive/122.html

Broomstick Lace is done with a large knitting needle or broomstick.
Broomstick lace can be altered to suite your taste.
Instead of doing 4 loops per section you might want to do 5.
Use your imagination. Just remember... if you pull off 4 loops
(like in the square pattern) you must do 4 stitches into those loops.
If you pull off 5 loops you must do 5 stitches into the loops, etc.

Hope this helps.
Lisa

CROCHET TIP

I always had yarn scraps everywhere in my take along projects until I discovered a small bowl I had used to carry dry cereal for my daughter when she was a toddler. Part of the lid swivels around so she could open it alone and not spill the cereal. Now she's older I use it to hold my yarn needle and scrap yarn pieces.

Hi Lisa, I just wanted to "Thank you" again for your website and all the great crochet patterns that are free. i just finished your pattern for the dish soap bottle dress and it looks great on my kitchen sink.I had a few problems figuring out what i was doing wrong.I would just pull it out and start over again. But i finally got it finished.Anyone out there reading this, Want a cute pattern to perk up the looks of your kitchen and of course hide that dish washing bottle. This is the pattern for you Thanks Lisa and God Bless you for sharing it Diane

RE: Read A Pattern

I have recently learned to crochet from my 91 year old grandmother. I have wanted to learn to chrochet because of her. She taught herself and has been crocheting all her life. She has made many, many afghans, slippers, hats, and vests throughtout her life. Anyway, she learned by looking at other people's work and copying the pieces or she made up her own patterns. The one piece of advice she told me to be sure and do was to learn to read the instructions and how to follow them. I am still a beginner but am eager to learn more. I just finished my first afghan - double crochet with a single crochet edging. I just wanted to say thanks so much for the very good detailed instructions and easy to understand instructions.

HUMOR

While on vacation with my son and his family, I shared a room with my 4 year old granddaughter. One morning when she awoke, she told me she had some nice dreams and proceeded to tell me about them. I told her I wished that I was able to dream like she does. She said, "But you can't because you snore too much."

A teacher asked one of her pupils, "What's the nation's capital?" The reply was, "Washington DC." On being asked what the 'DC' stood for, the pupil added, "Dot com!"

On Monday a call came in to the School Receptionist. "Hello, please mark William absent today," said the man. "Why?" asked the receptionist. "He is sick," said the man. "Ok, may I ask who is speaking?" said the receptionist. "My uncle." said William.

My wife Delores never quite got the hang of the 24-hour military clock. One day she called the orderly room to speak with me. The person who answered told her to call me at the extension in the band rehearsal hall. "He can be reached at 4700, Ma'am," the soldier advised. With a sigh of exasperation, my wife responded, "And just what time is that?"

I sat there waiting for my new doctor to make his way through the file that contained my very extensive medical history. After he finished all seventeen pages, he looked at me and said, "You look better in person than you do on paper."

Joe woke himself up with a loud "Hello!", apparently to someone in his dream. As the next day came and went, Joe thought the nocturnal outburst was his alone to remember. But that night as he and his wife Margaret, were getting ready for bed, she said dryly... "Dear, if you see anyone you know tonight, just wave, OK?"

A sister from a local convent became a Certified Public Accountant to help small shop owners manage their finances better. Her title: "Nun of Your Business".

The chef at a family-run restaurant had broken her leg and came into our insurance office to file a disability claim. As I scanned the claim form, I did a double take. Under "Reason unable to work," she wrote: "Can't stand to cook."
