WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

"For this reason I say to you, do not be anxious for your life, as to what you shall eat, or what you shall drink; nor for your body, as to what you shall put on. Is not life more than food, and the body than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?

Matthew 6:25-26

But godliness actually is a means of great gain, when accompanied by contentment. For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either. And if we have food and covering, with these we shall be content.

1 Timothy 6:6-8

Hence, let us go out to Him outside the camp, bearing His reproach.

Hebrew 13:5

"CONTENTMENT COMES WHEN WE
WANT GOD'S WILL MORE THAN OUR OWN WAY."

This quote is from Our Daily Bread - July, 2001 Issue.

ILLUSTRATED BASIC CROCHET INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE BEGINNER:

HOW TO DO A STARTING CHAIN

SINGLE CROCHET (click here for instructions)

HALF DOUBLE CROCHET (click here for instructions)

DOUBLE CROCHET (click here for instructions)

TRIPLE CROCHET (click here for instructions)

CROCHET TIP:

When I count my chains for a foundation chain I count in multiples of two.
When counting I count as follows:

2,4,6,8 - 1
2,4,6,8 - 2
2,4,6,8 - 3
2,4,6,8 - 4
etc.

Each time I reach a multiple of 10 I count off in single digits because it's easier to remember. I've found that if I say "twenty", "thirty", "forty", etc... I forget what I just said and have to recount.
Lisa

VIEWER TIP

When i started putting crocheted edges on facecloths i did it as
instructed on patterns, such as crochet evenly around facecloth with a
single crochet stitch "EVENLY'. Who can do it neatly? I was sitting
here tonight and thought there must be a better way to do this and it
came to me that i needed a guide so i crocheted a chain long enough to
go all around the facecloth with the same thread that i planned to use
for the edging and then i started at one corner and the chain links
provided the guide i needed simply by crocheting through each link. It
does a beautiful professional looking job. It takes longer but the
results are well worth it. Remember to place the single chain right
below the serged edge on the facecloth. You will be pleased.

VIEWER TIP

First of all, let me say that I love your website and newsletters!!!
I
finished my first granny square afghan this weekend. I found that using
small hair clips worked really well for holding the squares together while I
joined them. These are like the ones that I used:
http://www.walgreens.com/store/product.jhtml?PRODID=7622&CATID=100317

They're so much easier to use than safety pins!!

Hi Lisa,

Your site is terrific! I love crocheting. It is one of many hobbies that I enjoy.

What a pleasant surprise to see scripture verses and biblical topics among the craft items. Your trivia questions brought back good memories of playing bible baseball at our churches youth group. It is so nice to see Christians using every opportunity to spread the gospel.

Blessings to you,
Joyce Stewart from Balzac, AB, Canada

<reply>
Dear Joyce:

Thank you so much for such an uplifting message. I need a boost every so often :o)
Your message prompted me to search for Bible Baseball and I found there is actually a site by that name:
http://www.biblebaseball.com
From what I've read it seems that one needs to have a good sense of the rules of baseball in order to play.
Regardless... it sounds like a very fun thing to do with the kids.

I really like your site! I also like that you are using the internet for a
good purpose to benefit the Lord!
Keep doing what you are doing!
Whitney

I was looking thru the Bible Quiz and liked it very much. You will be blessed for encouraging folks to think on spiritual things. The beginning and the ending should be much on our minds during these days. Thanks so much.

Expenses

The old pastor made it a practice to visit the parish school one day a
week.

He walked into the 4th grade class, where the children were studying the
states, and asked them how many states they could name.

They came up with about 40 names.

He jokingly told them that in his day students knew the names of all the
states.

One lad raised his hand and said, "Yes, but in those days there were only
13."

One day an old lady's dog passed out on her floor. She was
used to her dog playing dead, so she thought nothing of it,
but three days passed and still the dog didn't move, so she
became worried. She took the dog to her local veterinarian.

The vet set the dog on an observation table and began
examining the dog. A couple minutes later, the vet left the
room. Then he returned with a cage and inside the cage was a
cat. He set the cage next to the dog and let the cat out.
The cat walked around the dog three times then went back into
his cage.

A few minutes later the vet came to the old lady and said
"I'm sorry, but you're dog is dead. That'll be 250 dollars."

"250 dollars! For what?!" Shouted the old lady.

"Well, 50 dollars for the examination, and 200 dollars for
the cat scan."

The Good Samaritan

A clergyman, walking down a country lane, sees a young farmer
struggling to load hay back onto a cart after it had fallen off.

"You look hot, my son," said the cleric. "Why don't you rest a
moment, and I'll give you a hand."

"No thanks," said the young man. "My father wouldn't like it."

"Don't be silly," the minister said. "Everyone is entitled to a break.
Come and have a drink of water."

Again the young man protested that his father would be upset. Losing
his patience, the clergyman said, "Your father must be a real slave
driver. Tell me where I can find him and I'll give him a piece of my
mind!"

"Well," replied the young farmer, "he's under the load of hay."

An irate woman burst into the baker's shop and said, "I sent my son
in for two pounds of cookies this morning, but when I weighed them
there was only one pound. I suggest that you check your scales."

The baker looked at her calmly for a moment or two and then replied,
"And I, Madam, suggest that you weigh your son."

The man coughed so violently that his false teeth shot across the
room and smashed against the wall. "Oh dear," he wailed, "Whatever
shall I do? I can't afford a new set." "Don't worry," said a little boy,
"I'll get a pair from my Dad for you."

The next day the boy came back with the teeth, which fit perfectly.
"This is wonderful," said the man. "Your father must be a very good
dentist."

"Oh, he's not a dentist," replied the boy, "he's an undertaker."
