  • Fiberfill and blunt tapestry or children's yarn needle

Body

Rnd1: With MC, make a loop around your finger then ch 1. 8 sc in loop pulling the loop tight with the last sc and wrapping the excess yarn from the loop around the yarn coming from the skein to secure it before starting the next round. (ch 1, 8 sc)

Rnd3: Starting in first stitch of second round, [sc then 2 sc in next sc] around--8 times. (24 sc)
Rnd4: [Sc in each of next 4 sc then 2 sc in next sc] around--4 times. (28 sc)
Rnds5-9: Sc in each sc around. (28 sc in each round) End off MC with slst to the first sc of the round.
Rnd10: Join CC with ch then PS in each sc around-join last PS of round to first PS with a slst. (28 PS)
Rnd11: Working in back loops only (BLO) of PS-ch 1, sc in same PS and each back loop around. (1 ch, 28 PS)

Rnd2-3: Working in both loops, sc in ch then around. (25 st)
Rnd4: [Sc in each of next 4 sc then 2 sc in next sc] around--5 times. (30 sc)

Rnds8-12: Sc around (11 sc) End off leaving enough yarn to sew the leg to the body.

Finishing

Stuff arms and legs with fiberfill. Sew the arms to the body with their tops about 2 rows below the collar and 6 sc apart. Sew the legs with their tops about 1 row below the waistband, 7 sc apart and angled out.

Face: Using the black yarn, sew a nose using 4 satin stitches over scs at the top of the first rnd of the muzzle. Come up through the center of the muzzle then do the first side of the mouth using one long stitch and tacking it in place for the curve of the smile. Repeat the process for the other side of the smile. Sew the muzzle to the lower front portion of the head, stuffing it as you go.

Sew the eyes just above the muzzle and 4 or 5 sc apart. Using the black yarn, satin stitch each eye over 2 rnds and across 2 sc then (for a girl bear) use 3 straight stitches at the outer upper corners of each eye for eyelashes.

Sew the ears about 4 rnds out from the center top of the head and angled slightly.
