Crochet Denim Purse

Crochet Denim Purse Close Up
Purse measures
6-1/2" x 6-1/4"

The following pattern is my original design.
Please only copy or print this pattern for personal use.
Please contact me if you find any errors.

MATERIALS:

4 Ply Cotton Yarn
Hook Size G
1" Button
Bottom leg of a pair of denim jeans.
Sewing machine (unless you're very crafty with a sewing needle)
Thread and sewing needle (for button)

Stitches: ch, sl st, sc, hdc, dc.

Difficulty: MEDIUM/DIFFICULT

I cut the legs off of my daughter's jeans and made purses out of them by adding crochet.
The existing hem of the leg is the top of the purse. I turned the cut end inward and sewed straight across using a zig zag stitch. Then made the following:

FLAP

R1: Ch 10, join to form a loop. Ch 2, do not turn. 4 hdc in ring. (5 hdc)

R2: Hdc in same sp as beg ch 2. 2 hdc in ea rem st. Ch 2, turn. (10 hdc)

R3: Hdc in ea st. Ch 2, turn. (10 dc)

R4: 2 hdc in ea st. Ch 3, turn (18 hdc)

R5: Dc in same st as beg ch-3, dc in next 2 sts, hdc across to last 3 sts. Dc in next 2 sts. 2 dc in last st. Ch 3, turn.

R6: Dc in same sp as beg ch-3. Dc in next 2 sts. Hdc in next st. Sc across to last 4 sts. Hdc in next st, dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in last st. Ch 1, turn.

R7-18: Sc in ea st. Ch 1, turn.

Fasten Off.
Weave in ends and sew to inside of denim purse.

HANDLE:

R1: Ch 6, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in last 2 chs.

R2: Ch 3, turn.Sk next dc, dc in next dc, dc in dc just skipped, dc in last dc.

Repeat R2 until handle is desired length ( I made mine 17-1/2" long)

Sew on inside of purse on opposite sides.

Using a needle and thread, sew the button on the front, positioning it so the flap will close nicely.

HAPPY CROCHETING
