Cross Ornament Free Crochet Pattern (Recycle Project)

Measures 5" tall x 4" wide

 


The following pattern is my original design.
Please only copy or print this pattern for personal use.
Please contact me if you find any errors.

MATERIALS: Caron Simply Soft (worsted weight-small amount of white)
 G Hook
5 Soda Can Tabs
Yarn Needle

Stitches: ch, sc, sl st.

Difficulty:  MEDIUM/DIFFICULT


PREPARE SODA TABS

Join yarn with a sc in one end of a tab. Work 5sc in the same sp.
6sc in space on opposite end. Join with al st in first sc.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Repeat for all 5 tabs.

JOINING TABS TO FORM CROSS

Note: The 6sc in ea sp will be referred to as a group.

Number Tabs 1-5.

TAB 1
Working in the 6 sts on one end of Tab 1, join with a sc in the first sc of that group.
(Ch1, sc in next sc) until ea st is worked in that group.
(Ch1, sc in next sc) 2 times.
Leave the last 4sts unworked.

TAB 2

Add the next tab by working a sc in the 5th sc of one group on Tab 2.
Ch1, sc in next st.
(Ch1, sc in next st) around second group on Tab 2.
(Ch1, sc in next st) 2 times, leaving the last 2sts unworked.

TAB 3

Add the next tab by working a sc in the 5th sc of one group on Tab 3.
Ch1, sc in next st.
(Ch1, sc in next st) around second group on Tab 2.
(Ch1, sc in next st) 2 times, leaving the last 2sts unworked.

TAB 4

Sc in 5th st of one group on Tab 4.
(Ch1, sc in next st) 3 times.
Leave rem sts unworked for now.

TAB 5

Sc in 5th st of one group on Tab 5.
(Ch1, sc in next st) around Tab 5 until there are 2sts rem... leave those unworked.

FINISH TAB 4

Skipping the next 2 unworked sts on Tab 4, sc in the next st on Tab 4.
(Ch1, sc in next st) 3 times. Leave last 2 sts unworked.

FINISH TAB 1

Skipping the next 2 unworked sts on Tab 1. Sc in next st on Tab 1.
Ch1, sc in next st. Ch1, join with sl st in first sc.

CENTER

You should have 8 unworked sts in the center opening of the cross.
Join same yarn with a sc in any of those 8sts.
Sc in ea st. Join with a sl st in first sc.
Fasten off leaving a 6" yarn end for sewing.

FINISHING

Using a yarn needle, weave the yarn end through all 8 sts and partially close the opening.
Weave ends.
