Halloween Afghan Square (6") Free Crochet Pattern

The following pattern is my original design.
Please only copy or print this pattern for personal use.

Red Heart Super Saver

MC= Black (less than 1 ounce
CC = Orange (less than 1/2 ounce of orange)
I Hook

Stitches: ch, dc, ldc, sc, sl st.

Yarn over and insert your hook into the stitch or space indicated.
Yarn over and pull up a loop. (3 loops on hook.)
Yarn over and draw through 2 of the loops. (2 loops on hook.)
Yarn over and draw through the last 2 of the loops.

A Long Double Crochet Stitch is worked the same as a regular
double crochet stitch, except... it is worked in a stitch on a row
below the normal working row.

Difficulty: MEDIUM

R1: With MC, Ch4, dc in the 4th ch from the hook. Ch1.
(2Dc in same ch, ch1) 3x
Join with sl st in top of beg ch4.
(Right Side)

R2: Turn. Sl st in next chsp. Ch3.
(Dc, ch1, 2dc) in same sp.

Sc bet next 2dc. *(2dc, ch1, 2dc) in next chsp. Sc bet next 2dc.
Rep from * 2x.
Sl st in top of beg ch3.
Fasten off.

R3: With RS facing, join CC in any corner chsp. Ch3,
(dc, ch2, 2dc) in same sp.
* Ch1. Ldc bet 2dc on R1. Ch1.
(2dc, ch2, 2dc) in corner chsp.
Rep from * 2x.
Ch1, Ldc bet 2dc, Ch1.
Join with sl st in top of beg ch.
Fasten off.

R4: With RS facing, join MC in any corner chsp.
Ch3. (Dc, ch2, 2dc) in same sp.
Dc in ea st and in ea chsp across to next corner.
*(2dc, ch2, 2dc) in next corner chsp.
Dc in ea st and ch sp across to next corner.
Rep from * around.
Join with sl st in top of beg ch3.

R5: Do not turn. Ch3. Dc in ea st around, placing (2dc, ch1, 2dc) in ea corner.
Join with sl st in top of beg ch3.

Fasten off.
