The following pattern is my original design.

MATERIALS:

Hook: Size G (4.25 mm)
4 Ply Cotton

Stitches used: ch, sl st, sc, dc.

Difficulty: MEDIUM

MAIN TOTE:

ROW 1: Ch 40, join with sl st to form a ring. (be careful not to twist) Ch 1, do not turn. Sc in same st as joining. Sc in each rem ch. (40 sc) Join with sl st in 1st sc. Ch 3, turn.

ROW 2: Dc in st just prior to beg ch 3. * Sk next unworked st. Dc in next st. Dc in skipped st. Rep from * around. Join with sl st in top of beg ch 3. Ch 3, turn.

ROW 3: Dc in each st around. Join with sl st in top of beg ch 3. Ch 3, turn.

ROWS 4-9: Alternate Rows 2 & 3.

HANDLE #1:

ROW 1: Dc in next 3 sts. Ch 3. turn.

ROW 2: Sk next st, dc in next st. Dc in skipped st. Dc in last st. Ch 3, turn.

ROWS 3-11: Alternate Rows 1 & 2 ending with Row 1.

Fasten off leaving about a 6" yarn tail to use for sewing.
Attach end of handle as follows: Sk 5 sts on Row 9 of main tote. Using a yarn needle sew Row 11 of the handle to Row 9 of the main tote being careful to line up the stitches evenly.

HANDLE #2:

ROW 1: Ch 6, dc in 4th ch from hk and in each rem ch. (4 dc). Ch 3, turn.

ROW 2: Rep Row #2 of Handle #1.

ROWS 3-11: Same as Handle #1.

To Join Handle #2, sk 7 sts on the last row of the main tote. Using a yarn needle, join the handle by sewing it to the next 4 stitches of the main tote. Sk next 5 sts, then use the yarn needle to join the opposite end of the handle.

Sew bottom of tote bag closed being sure the handles are centered.
Add a ribbon bow or the decoration of your choice.
