           5 rows of sc = 1 "

Stitches: ch, dc, fdc, fpdc, bpdc, sc, sc2tog, sl st.

Difficulty: MEDIUM

Note: This bootie is worked from the top down. The cuff is worked first, then the top of the bootie. The sole is worked separate and joined to finish.

R1: Leaving approximately 4" of yarn at the beginning, ch4, fdc in 4th ch from the hook.
Work 13 more fdc. Join with a sl st in the top of the beg ch4.
Using the yarn tail, secure the base of the first and last sts tog. (14sts)

R2: Sl st around the fp of the same st as joining. Ch3.
Bpdc around the next st. (Fpdc around the next st. Bpdc around the next st) around.
Join with a sl st in the top of the beg ch3. (14sts)

Rs3-4: Rep R2.

Top of the bootie begins with short rows.

R5: Ch1, do not turn. Sc in 8sts. (8sts)

R6: Ch1, turn. Sc in ea st. (8sts)

R7: Ch1, turn. Sc in 1st st. Hdc in next st. Dc in 4sts. Hdc in next st. Sc in last st. (8sts)

2sc in ea of the 6 unworked sts on R4. (12sts)
Sc in ea row end on the next 5 rows (5sts)
Sc in ea st on R9 (12sts)
[5+12+5+12=34 stitches total]
Do not join.

Begin working in continuous rounds, placing a marker where each round begins.

R11-13: Sc in ea st. (34sts)

R14: Sc in BLO of ea st. (34sts)
Note: This round is worked in the back loop only to allow you to embellish the bootie later if you want to. Sl st in the next st.

Fasten off.

R1: Ch6, sc in the 2nd ch from the hook. Sc in ea rem ch. (5sc)

Rs2-12: Ch1, turn. Sc in ea st.

Fasten off leaving a long length to use when joining the sole to the top of the bootie.

Fold the top part of the bootie to find the center stitch on the heel. Position the sole aligning the center stitch of the last row with the center stitch at the heel of the bootie. Using a yarn needle, whip stitch all corresponding sts and/or row ends tog. There were a total of 34 sts on the last round of the top part of the bootie and the sole is 12 rows of 5 sts (12 row ends + 5 sts + 12 row ends + 5sts = 34). All sts should join in a one to one ratio.
