Pentagon Bread Cloth

Yeah.. I know those are apples, not bread.

The following pattern is my original design.

MATERIALS:

4-ply Cotton
Hook: Size I

Stitches used: ch, sl st, hdc.

Difficulty: EASY

R1: Ch 3, hdc in 3rd ch from hook. (Ch2, 2hdc in same ch) 4 times. Ch 2. Join with sl st in top of beg ch-3.

R2: Turn. Sl st in next ch-2 sp. Ch 2. (hdc, ch2, 2hdc, ch1) in same ch-2 sp. (2hdc, ch2, 2hdc, ch1) in each rem ch-2 sp. Join with sl st in top of beg ch-2.

R3: Turn, Sl st in next ch-1 sp. Ch 2. Hdc in same ch-1 sp. Ch 1. (2hdc, ch2, 2hdc, ch1) in next ch-2 sp. *2hdc in next ch-1 sp. Ch 1. (2hdc, ch2, 2hdc, ch1) in next ch-2 sp. Repeat from & around. Join with sl st in top fo beg ch-2.

R4: Turn, sl st in next ch-1 sp. Ch 2. Hdc in same ch-1 sp. Ch 1. (2hdc, ch2, 2hdc, ch1) in next ch-2 sp. (2hdc in next ch-1 sp, ch1) twice. *(2hdc, ch2, 2hdc, ch1) in next ch-2 sp. (2hdc in next ch-1 sp, ch1) twice. Rep from * twice. (2hdc, ch2, 2hdc, ch1) in net ch-2 sp. 2hdc in next ch-1 sp. Ch 1. Join with sl st in top of beg ch-2.

R5: Turn, Sl st in next ch-1 sp. Ch 2. Hdc in same ch-1 sp. Ch 1. 2hdc in next ch-1 sp. Ch 1. *(2hdc, ch2, 2hdc, ch1) in next ch-2 sp. (2hdc, ch1) in each ch-1 sp. Rep from * 3 times. (2hdc, ch2, 2hdc, ch1) in next ch-2 sp. (2hdc, ch1) in next ch-1 sp. Join with sl st in top of beg ch-2.

R8-21: Repeat R7.

NOTE: Work 9 rounds for a dishcloth or more rows for a table topper or baby afghan.
I recommend hanging tassels on each point of the pentagon for a table topper.
