MATERIALS:

Red Heart Super Saver-4ply worsted weight (Black - less than 2-1/2 ounces)
Hair elastic
Yarn Needle

Hook Size H

Stitches: ch, dc, dc2tog, sc, sl st.

Difficulty:  MEDIUM

BAND

R1: Ch8, sc in the second ch from the hook. Sc in ea rem ch. (7sc)

Rs2-58: Ch1, turn. Sc in BLO of ea st. (7sc)

JOINING

Ch1, turn. Holding R1 & R58 tog, sl st cor BLO's on R58 and the cor unworked lps on R1 tog.

BODY OF HAT

R1: Ch1, sl st in next row end. Ch3, (counts as 1dc)
Dc in ea row end around.
Join with a sl st in the top of the beg ch3. (58dc)

Rs2-5: Sl st bet next 2 sts.
Ch3 (counts as 1dc)
(Dc bet next 2sts) around.
Join with a sl st in the top of the beg ch3. (58dc)

R6: Sl st bet next 2sts.
Ch3 (counts as 1dc)
(Dc bet next 2sts) twice.
* Dc2tog. (Dc bet next 2sts) 3 times.
Rep from * around to last 3sts.
Dc in next st. Dc2tog.
Join with a sl st in the top of the beg ch3. (34dc & 12-dc2tog)

R7: Sl st bet next 2sts.
Ch3 (counts as 1dc)
(Dc in sp bet next 2sts) four times.
Dc2tog.
* (Dc in sp bet next 2sts) five times.
Dc2tog.
Rep from * around to last 4sts.
(Dc in sp bet next 2sts) twice.
Dc2tog.
Join with a sl st in the top of the beg ch3. (32dc & 7-dc2tog)

R8: Sl st bet next 2sts.
Ch3 (counts as 1dc)
*Dc2tog.
Dc in sp bet next 2sts.
Rep from * around.
Join with a sl st in the top of the beg ch3. (13dc & 13-dc2tog)

R9: Sl st bet next 2sts. Ch3 (Counts as 1dc)
(Dc bet next 2sts) around.
Join with a sl st in the top of the beg ch3.

Fasten off leaving a length of yarn for sewing.
Holding the hair elastic aligned with the last row, whip stitch over the hair elastic through ea st.
