JOINING
To make the hat into a tube, join R1 to the last row. Holding the first and last rows tog, use Red, sl st in the BLO of one red st on the last row AND the corresponding unworked loop of the white stitch on the opposite row. Repeat until all cor sts are joined.

Fasten off.

Turn tube inside out.

CLOSE END
On the end where the colors were carried along the edge, using a yarn needle and a double strand of white yarn, weave through the row ends and draw the opening closed.

POM POM

Make a pom pom by wrapping one strand of white and one strand of red yarn 80 times around a 4" piece of cardboard. Tie snuggly in the middle and cut the loops. Trim to neaten the pom pom. Tie the pom pom on the closed end of the hat, securing a knot inside the hat.

Trim and weave in ends, then fold up the brim as shown in the photo above.
