Tresa's Butterfly Rag Rug

The following pattern is an original design by Tresa Robinson.

Materials
Hook - Q
Cotton blend fabric that is pretty stiff and about 3 inches wide.
"I folded it in thirds and then in half to keep any raw edges from showing."

Wings-make 2
Chain 23
Round 1: 2 DC in 3rd ch. from hook. DC in next 19 chains.
4 DC in last chain. Turn. DC in next 6 chains.
HDC in next chain. SC in next chain. Slip stitch in next 3 chains.
SC in next chain.
HDC in next chain. DC in next 6 chains. 2 DC in last chain (for a total of 4 DC in last chain)
Connect with a slip stitch.


Round 2: Chain 3.
Working in back loops throughout, DC in same stitch as chain 3.
2 DC in next stitch. DC in next 19 stitches.
2 DC in next 4 stitches. DC in next 5 stitches.
HDC in next stitch. SC in next stitch.
Slip stitch in next 4 stitches. SC in next stitch.
HDC in next stitch. DC in next 5 stitches.
2 DC in next 2 stitches. Connect.


Round 3: Change colors.
Chain 3.
DC in same stitch as chain 3. 2 DC in next 4 stitches.
DC in next 17 stitches. 2 DC in next 9 stitches.
DC in next 5 stitches. HDC in next stitch.
SC in next stitch. Slip stitch in next 4 stitches.
SC in next stitch. HDC in next Stitch.
DC in next 5 stitches. 2 DC in next 4 stitches. Connect.


Round 4: Change colors.
Chain 3.
DC in same stitch as chain 3. 2 DC in next 9 stitches.
DC in next 17 stitches. 2 DC in next 17 stitches.
DC in next 6 stitches. HDC in next stitch.
SC in next stitch. Slip stitch in next 5 stitches.
SC in next stitch. HDC in next stitch.
DC in next 6 stitches. 2 DC in next 6 stitches.
Connect and finish.


Body:

Chain 27 leaving a very long fabric tail.
SC in 2nd chain from hook. SC in each chain to the end leaving last chain.
3 SC in last chain. Turn.
Working down other side of chain, SC in next 20 chains.
Chain 6. SC in 2nd chain from hook and in next 4 chains forming the second antenae. Finish off leaving another very long fabric tail.
Using the long fabric tails, connect the body to the wings with a whip stitch. (I used a large paper clip as a sewing needle.)
Finish off and weave in all loose fabric tails. I like to anchor it by sewing and hiding the sewn tail under a stitch.
