GENERAL NEWS

Dear Subscriber:

Our daughter Haley is becoming quite the little designer.
She's been at it for quite a while now:

Haley in 1998

Haley in 2007

Haley designed this Doll Headband pattern for me to include in this issue (see Member Patterns Section).
Then she went on to make this adorable bikini and anklet to match it (sorry but she didn't write those
instructions down). Then I helped out a bit with the Doll Beach Bag (pattern below).

We hope you enjoy these patterns!

WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

"Remember that children, marriages, and flower gardens
reflect the kind of care they get."
H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

How blessed is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding. For its profit is bettter than the profit of silver, and its gain than fine gold.

Proverbs 3:13-14

For wisdom is better than jewels; and all desirable things can not compare with her.

Proverbs 8:11

Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show by his good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom. But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish amibition in your heart, do not be arrogant and so lie against the truth. This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, natural, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy. And the seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

James 4:13-18

For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you may walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. For He delivered us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Colossians 1:9-14

"A LITTLE WISDOM IS BETTER
THAN A LOT OF WEALTH."

This quote is from Our Daily Bread - April, 2007 Issue.

"For where two or three have gathered together in My name, there I am in their midst." Matthew 18:20

CROCHET TIP

You have a deadline and need an afghan for a gift!
Do you have time to get it made?

If your afghan is worked in rows...

1. Crochet a series of rows and time yourself.
1a: 10 rows took 60 minutes to complete.

2. Divide the number of rows you made into the total number of rows needed to complete the afghan.
2a: Afghan is 100 rows. 100 divided by 10 = 10

3. Multiply that number by the amount of time it took you to make that number of rows.
3a: 10 x 60 minutes = 600 minutes OR 10 hours

4. The number you get is the total amount of time it will take you to make your afghan.
4a: It will take you 10 hours to make the afghan (if it doesn't have a border)

If your pattern is worked in squares/motifs, make one square/motif timing your progress and calculate how long it will take you to finish your squares... then allow time to join them and add your border/edging.

Scrap Yarn Ideas ...

29. I save my scrap yarn for craft projects for our kindergarten Sunday school class. My husband and I have used for:

Paper bag puppet hair or faces
Hangers for ornaments
To string necklaces
Sewing cards (make any shape out of posterboard and punch holes around the edges, take a long piece of string and tape or glue the end to make it not ravel, then have the kids sew in and out of the holes.)

Also, leftover novelty yarn is great for scrapbooking or card making. The eyelash yarn makes a cute fuzzy frame around pictures. I cut a long skinny piece of cardboard and made notches down both sides. Then I wrap some of the extra yarn around the cardboard, and keep it with my scrapbook supplies. Each time I get a new kind of novelty yarn, I add it to another notch on the cardboard. Carrie Mitchell

30. Roll up your yarn into balls and donate them to a local Nursing Home for residents to knit or crochet with. It is soothing for the residents plus they like to keep what they make. Bless you all Linda

31. I keep a see thru jar next to me whenever I crochet. All the little snips of yarn left over after weaving in the ends are put in there. I never can find a marker when I need one, so I reach for my jar. I have all the colors of the rainbow to choose from and I don't feel quilty by throwing away good yarn. Rita Hughett

do you have number 32?

Re: Comments

Hi Lisa - I just want to thank you for the amazing collection of bookmark crochet patterns! I have done about 8 of them, and will be working toward 100 for my annual Women's retreat in Toccoa, GA next March, 2008. I did about 7 this last week, so figure it won't take me long to complete the batch, then block them all. I have really enjoyed working from your patterns, they are so simple and straightforward. I look forward to exploring your site more once I finish this project. I have just learned to knit too, and hope to find something simple I can start with. Thanks for a wonderful website! It is a favorite of mine in more ways than one, LOL! Deanna Smith

Thank you and please keep up the good work!
The Lord will repay you richly for it. Sadie

I love your page and really enjoy the clean humor and uplifting verses in addition to my favorite topic CROCHETING! God bless you for the work you're doing here.
And I can't wait to try the scrubbing dishcloth! Carrie Mitchell

Hi! I LOVE your site and the newsletter. I have learned sooo.... much since I first signed up. I do have a question: do your or any of the other readers have (or know where I can get for free) patterns for children's size 5-10 tank or t-shirt tops and dresses? I want to make some for my granddaughter but can't seem to find even one that I don't have to pay for. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Please continue the inspiring work! Thank You, Cindy Brown

A close friend sent the letter "THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME" and this caused me to find you.
The inspiration of the letter inspired me to write a speech for my spokesman club on inspiration.
A wonderful thought to be able to show we all can make a difference, especially with a good attitude.
Even then WE CAN GO FURTHER AND TELL ALL WE MEET AND WITH OUR BIG GRINS,
TELL THEM "YOUR HAVING TOO MUCH FUN"
Then watch their faces turn into a BIG!, BIG! Grin.
Thanks!! Bill O'Quinn

I want to thank you for such a good site on crocheting. I am very proficient at Knitting and have crocheted quite a bit, but never saw some of the things I just saw on your website. Also, I didn't know I could copy and paste something like that into my notepad. I did it with no problem. I am VERY basic when it comes to using my computer. Thanks again Nancy in Ohio

RE: Last Supper

Thank you so much for your newsletter. I look forward to it each month. Do you, or does anyone, know where I can get the crochet patterns for the wall hangings of the Lord's Supper and The 23'rd Psalm? Thank you for your help. Ruth K.

<< reply >>

You're very welcome Ruth. You can purchase a filet chart of the last supper here: http://www.lacis.com/catalog/data/b_crochet.html
the page has alot of images to load...
this pattern is toward the bottom of the page.

There's a leaflet available on the following page that you might also enjoy called
Divine Designs in Filet Crochet:
http://www.purplekittyyarns.com/browseproducts/Divine-Designs-in-Filet-Crochet.HTML

The description says:
"Crochet inspirational creations with these pieces featuring sacred scenes and images. Bring a glow to any room with the Lords Prayer, Jesus Praying, Praying Hands, or the Angel Banner. All 6 designs are completed with basic stitches and a chart."

Hope this helps.

I have to tell you about this new book.
SweaterBabe.com's Fabulous & Flirty Crochet
I'm so happy to have it in my crochet library.

Katherine Lee has an eye for style and a definite knack for creating beautiful crochet patterns.
I was really happy with the large colorful project photos.
There's something for everyone!
The aspect of Fabulous and Flirty Crochet that stood out to me was the section on the yarns used in the patterns.
One page shows "actual size" photos of the yarns which makes it super easy to substitute other yarns if you want to.
For those who stay strictly to the recommended yarn in a pattern Katherine has included a yarn resource list.
The projects are very fashionable and perfect for gift giving... though I'm sure you'll have to make something for yourself :o)
I can't wait to try the Flirty Skirt and the Ruffled Strap Tank.

HUMOR

"If you had one dollar and you asked your father for another, how many dollars would you have?"

Vinny raised his hand and answered, "One dollar."

The teacher shook her head. "You don't know your math."

Vinny replied, "You don't know my father."

A pastor asked a little boy if he said his prayers every night.

"Yes sir," the boy replied.

"And, do you always say them in the morning, too?" the pastor asked.

"No sir," the boy replied.
"I ain't scared in the daytime."

VIEWER JOKE
Submitted by Cathy Moser

For the first time in many years, an old man travels from his rural town to the city to attend a movie. After buying his ticket, he stops at the concession stand to purchase some popcorn. He hands the attendant $1.50 and comments, "The last time I came to the Our Videos, popcorn was only 15 cents." "Well, sir," the attendant replies, "you're really going to enjoy yourself. We have sound now!"

A visiting minister was very long-winded.
Worse, every time he would make a good point during his sermon and a member of the congregation responded with "Amen" or "That's right, preacher" he would get wound up even more and launch into another lengthy discourse.

Finally, the host pastor started responding to every few sentences with "Amen, Pharaoh!"

The guest minister wasn't sure what that meant, but after several more "Amen, Pharaohs" he finally concluded his very lengthy sermon.

After the service concluded and the congregation had left, the visiting minister turned to his host and asked,
"What exactly did you mean when you said "Amen, Pharaoh?"

His host replied, "I was telling you to let my people go!"

The priest is repairing the church fence.

A boy is standing nearby for a long while.

The priest asks him: "Do you want to speak with me, my son?"

"No, I'm just waiting."

"Waiting for what?"

"Waiting to hear what a priest says when he hits his finger with a hammer."

During an attack of laryngitis I lost my voice completely for two days. To help me communicate with him, my husband devised a system of taps. One tap meant, "Give me a kiss," two taps meant "No," three taps meant "Yes," and 95 taps meant "Take out the garbage."

Dispatcher: 9-1-1 What's the nature of your emergency?
Caller: My wife is pregnant and her contractions are only two minutes apart.
Dispatcher: Is this her first child?
Caller: No, you idiot! This is her husband!

A VERY DIRTY youngster came in from playing with his friends. He asked his mother, “Who am I?”

Ready to play the game, she answered, “I don’t know. Who are you?”

“Wow!” the lad exclaimed.
“Mrs. Johnson was right. She said I was so dirty even my own mother wouldn’t recognize me!”

AFTER a first date, the young woman says to the man,
“You remind me of the ocean.”

“You mean I’m wild, restless and romantic?” he asks.

“No,” she replies. “You make me sick.”

A JOGGER came upon a man lying with his ear to the ground.
As he got closer, the jogger heard the man say,
“Green Ford pickup, male driver, dog in front seat, slick rear tires.”

“You can get all that information just by listening to the ground?” asked the jogger.

“Listening, nothing,” replied the man.
“That’s the truck that just ran me over.”

AN EXASPERATED MOM, whose son was always getting into mischief, asked him how he expected to get into heaven. The boy thought it over and said, “Well, I’ll just run in and out, slamming the door over and over until St. Peter finally says, ‘For heaven’s sake, Jimmy, either come in or stay out!’”

SEVERAL ELDERLY NUNS were on the second floor of the convent when a fire broke out. The nuns calmly took off their habits, tied them together to make a rope and climbed out the window to safety. When they were on the ground, a reporter asked them, “Weren’t you afraid the rope might break since the material is so old?”

“Heavens, no,” said one of the nuns. “Old habits are hard to break.”

TOMMY AND BOBBY were walking home from school and began comparing their parents. “My mom can tell the future,” said Tommy. “No way,” said Bobby. “Sure,” said Tommy. “All she has to do is take one look at my report card, and she can tell me what my dad’ll do to me when he gets home.”
