SUGAR STARCH STIFFENER

QUESTION

Would like to know how to sugar starch a doily ????
would appreciate it. thank you. mickirjm

ANSWER

Dear mickirjm:

You can find stiffening information on these pages:
http://crochet.tangleweeds.com/stiffeners.html
http://home.inreach.com/marthac/tips1.html

I have used the "sugar water" recipe on this page
http://home.inreach.com/marthac/tips1.html
to stiffen two flower girl baskets for my sister in law's wedding.
It worked great... however the solution is very HOT so be CAREFUL to let it cool
enough before you try to put your hands in it - it could blister your skin !

READ A PATTERN:
SC DEC OVER NEXT 2 STS

QUESTION

I am currently working on a pattern I found on your website and one of the abreviations has thrown me off. What does "sc Dec over next 2 sts" mean? Thanks for your help Casey

ANSWER

Hi Casey:

That means you work a single crochet decrease over the next two stitches.

Insert your hook in the next stitch and draw up a loop.
Insert your hook in the next stitch and draw up a loop.
Now yarn over and draw through all loops on the hook.

If you go to this website,
http://www.letssaythanks.com/
, you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq. You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services. How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!! This is a great site. Please send a card. Lori Greenawalt

So glad to get new patterns... and free! Getting tired of my patterns. Now I'm set for my favorite winter hobby!! Thanks so much. (I have tons of yarn to use up) I just stumbled on this site, but I'll be back !

RuVonda Morefield

Hi Lisa, Just saw the nasty email you received. Don't let it get you down: people like that are unhappy with their life and want to make everyone else unhappy too even if they have to tell lies. If she didn't like your site, she wouldn't spend time reading it! I have made and given several of your items and everyone liked them especially the plastic bag holder but I see the hanging dish towel in everyone's house. Keep up the good work...

Kathy

just love your patterns and use them alot

RE: Plate Coaster

I made this coaster and it looks very nice. What is it for? It can't be for a glass as sweat would go through. Is it what the title says? (a coaster for a plate)

>> reply <<

Yes... it's for a plate. My daughter sits at our coffee table sometimes to eat and I designed that pattern to protect the table.

Hi Lisa, I enjoy your letters each month. I recently had to have a total knee replacement on my right leg. I had just had the same done on the same leg 2 yrs ago. The bone had started to break off so they had to go in and revise the knee and had to put steel rods into the bone to hold the new knee. that was at the end of June and now it is Sept. Had just went back to work and had a appointment with the surgeon and they had taken x-rays. I have another break near the new knee and now am off work for another 2 months, Please I ask that you and this family we have here to pray for my recovery. if the healing does not take and the bone doesn't heal I will have to have another surgery. I am not allowed to put any weight on this leg and I am getting so discouraged. Sorry for being so long, but I wanted you to know the whole story. If you want you may print all or any part of this, I just ask that you would pray for me to get better. Thank you and May God Bless. Janie Marshall

Hello, Your web site is a God send!!!!

Re: Bible

Lisa--this is so exciting! I copied one of the instructions for a baby's gift, and then I checked what else you had on...the Bible info was something I wanted to see...I am a Christian and have been for a long time! What an exciting thing it was to see what you have put on your computer info for people! Jesus will bless you--I pray that there have been many people who have found Him as their Savior by reading what you have written for us to see. Love to you, Christian person-- Claire

Hi Lisa, I always look forward to your newsletters; and especially this month. My husband and I have had some health concerns and problems. Your kind words and the expression of your faith mean so much to me and all of the members. God bless you for your good work. Love, Linda

I have to tell you about this new book.
SweaterBabe.com's Fabulous & Flirty Crochet
I'm so happy to have it in my crochet library.

Katherine Lee has an eye for style and a definite knack for creating beautiful crochet patterns.
I was really happy with the large colorful project photos.
There's something for everyone!
The aspect of Fabulous and Flirty Crochet that stood out to me was the section on the yarns used in the patterns.
One page shows "actual size" photos of the yarns which makes it super easy to substitute other yarns if you want to.
For those who stay strictly to the recommended yarn in a pattern Katherine has included a yarn resource list.
The projects are very fashionable and perfect for gift giving... though I'm sure you'll have to make something for yourself :o)
I can't wait to try the Flirty Skirt and the Ruffled Strap Tank.

Get your copy of Fabulous & Flirty Crochet today!

A Pastor was walking past a pet shop one day when he noticed a sign in the window: "Christian Horse for Sale." Being that the Pastor owned a large ranch, he was immediately interested, and went into the shop.

The owner took the Pastor out to the back, where he saw a beautiful Arabian stallion. He agreed to allow the Pastor to take a "test run."

The Pastor grabbed the reins. "giddyap." The horse ignored him. "no, no," counseled the owner. This is a Christian horse. If you want him to move, you must say, "Praise the Lord!" The Pastor did as he was told, and the horse started off on a leisurely walk. However, he soon found that the horse would not stop. "He won't answer to 'Whoa', said the owner. It's "Amen."

The Pastor decided that he liked the horse, so he bought him and took him home to his ranch in the country. He saddled the horse up again, said, "Praise the Lord," and went riding into the countryside.

Suddenly, the horse saw a rattlesnake crossing the path. Frightened, he reared and bolted straight for a cliff.

The Pastor cried "whoa!" but the horse only ran faster. In vain, he tried one word after another. Finally, he remembered the correct command and screamed "AMEN!!!!!" just as the horse approached the edge of the cliff.

The Pastor was so thrilled that his life had been saved that he raised his hands to the sky and shouted, "PRAISE THE LORD!"

The kindergarten teacher was showing her class an encyclopedia page picturing several national flags. She pointed to the American flag and asked, "What flag is this?"

A little girl called out, "That's the flag of our country."

"Very good," the teacher said. "And what is the name of our country?"

'Tis of thee," the girl said confidently.

One evening while I was preparing dinner, my daughter came into the kitchen asking for homework help on her vocabulary words. "Mom," she asked, "what's a quarter horse?"

As I thought of a simple explanation, my five-year-old son piped up, "It's the one they have in front of the grocery store."

You know it's going to be a bad day when your teenager knocks on your bedroom door first thing in the morning and says,

"Today is Nerd Day at school, Pop. Can I borrow some of your clothes?"

A little boy was roughhousing with his dog. His mother said to him, "Now, Peter, I know you love Granger, but you're loving him too much. How would you feel if someone huge picked you up and squeezed you so hard you couldn't breathe?"

The boy thought a moment and then said, "I guess I'd feel like it was my birthday and Aunt Doreen was here!"

I got a package envelope in the mail the other day that had written on the front, "Photographs: Do Not Bend."

Underneath the mailman wrote, "Oh, yes they do."

My wife chewed me out at the company picnic a while back. "Doesn't it embarrass you that people have seen you go up to the buffet table five times???"

"Not a bit," I replied. "I just tell them I'm filling up the plate for you!"

A teacher was taking her first golf lesson. "Is the word spelled 'put' or 'putt'?" she asked the instructor.

"'Putt' is correct," he replied. "

'Put' means to place a thing where you want it.

'Putt' means a vain attempt to do the same thing."

"Somebody just gave me a shower radio. Thanks a lot. Do you really want music in the shower? I guess there's no better place to dance than a slick surface next to a glass door." - Jerry Seinfeld

JOHN AND MARY, each 50 years old, had lived on the same farm since they were married 25 years ago. They never left the place except to go to town for supplies.

As they were celebrating their silver anniversary, a fairy appeared and told them she would grant them each one wish. Mary said, “I’ve always wanted to travel around the world.” The fairy waved her magic wand and immediately Mary had all the tickets in her hand for a trip around the world.

The fairy turned to John and asked him what his wish would be. He hesitated, then said shyly, “I’d like to have a woman 30 years younger than I am.”

The fairy again waved her magic wand, and John was 80 years old.
