WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

And when they led Him away, they laid hold of one Simon of Cyrene, coming in from the country, and placed on him the cross to carry behind Jesus. And there were following Him a great multitude of the people, and of women who were mourning and lamenting Him. But Jesus turning to them said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, stop weping for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. For behold, the days are coming when they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.' Then they will begin TO SAY TO THE MOUNTAINS, 'FALL ON US,' AND TO THE HILLS, 'COVER US.' "For if they do these things in the green tree, what will happen in the dry." And two others also, who were criminals, were being led away to be put to death with Him. And when they came to the place called The Skull, there they crucified Him and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left. But Jesus was saying, "Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing."And they cast lots, dividing up His garments among themselves.

Luke 23:26-34

But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb, bringing the spices which they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. And it happened that while they were perplexed about this, behold, two men suddenly stood near them in dazzling apparel; and as the women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, "Why do you seek the living One among the dead? "He is not here, but He has risen." Remember how He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee, saying that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again." And they remembered His words, and returned from the tomb and reported all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. Now they were Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James; also the other women with them were telling these things to the apostles. And these words appeared to them as nonsense, and they would not believe them. [But Peter arose and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen wrappings only; and he went away to his home, marveling at that which had happened.]

Luke 24:1-12

And when the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, that they might come and anoint Him. And very early on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen. And they were saying to one another, "Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?" And looking up they saw that the stone had been rolled away, although it was extremely large. And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting at the right, wearing a white robe; and they were amazed. And he said to them. "Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who has been crucified. He has risen; He is not here; behold, here is the place where they laid Him. "But go, tell His disciples and Peter, 'He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him, just as He said to you.' " And they went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had gripped them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.

James 1:12-13

CROCHET STITCH/TECHNIQUE:

CROCHETING IN BETWEEN POSTS

When a pattern calls for crocheting in between the posts of two stitches think of each double crochet stitch as a fence post. You work the indicated stitch in between the two stitches (fence posts) instead of into them.

CROCHET TIP:

If you have extreme difficulty with a pattern, try laying the project down for a while and then coming back to it. Sometimes just having a break from reading the directions will clear things up for you.

VIEWER TIP:

Hi Lisa,

I've been reading your newsletter and want to thank you again for it. I've been doing some afghan stitch crocheting lately, making a bunch of your dishcloths to have for myself and to give as gifts. This tip came from an old Coats & Clark Learn to Crochet booklet.

The Tip: When you reach the last vertical bar when drawing up loops, insert the hook through the last vertical bar and the st directly behind it and draw up a loop. This gives a firm edge to this side.

I've also been crocheting a baby afghan for a new arrival in May. It will be my niece's second girl. I enlarged your doll blanket pattern. (cross stitch) It is coming along nicely and I should have it finished soon. I'm making it larger than the usual baby afghan so it can be used longer. I will try to remember to take a picture to send to you when it is finished.

Thanks again for a great newsletter.

Linda

VIEWER TIP:

I recently learned how to do bumps in a row of crochet. I don't know what it's called but it's made by making one single then one triple, then a single crochet to make it puffy. You should start and end with a single crochet or it's gets a little out of shape. On the next row I alternate the bumps so they aren't on top of each other. I used it in some square dishcloths I made. I'm still new at crocheting and I love your website. It's been very helpful to me.
Thanks,
Lynn

VIEWER FEEDBACK

NOTE: Any comments left on the CNM website or sent via email may be posted here.

While making a treetop angel for my grandmother I realized I did not have any potty stuffing for the head. So I hunted around the house for something to use. Finally I got the bright idea to stuff it with used dryer sheets. They still have life and smell left in them. They worked great! My grandmother said the angel smelled so good that after Christmas she set it on a shelf rather than pack it away.

Hi! I just wanted to tell you how much I have enjoyed your website. The bible study I attend decided to continue to get together even though our study is done until next fall. We are getting together to have a prayer time then do crafts. There are quite a few women who wanted to learn to crochet and getting your free patterns to do dishcloths have been perfect. Thank you so much for your free patterns and your website.
Yours in Christ
Debbie Gray

Dear Fellow Crafter,
I love Your patterns and You do very great job with displaying them.
Thank-You for the oppurtunity to visit Your Crafty world.

Thank you for your recent e-mail about hook sizes, it was very helpful. I thought I would let you know in case anyone in the future asks, that in Australia Knitting Cotton is 4ply or equivalent. We call it knitting cotton because a lot of people use it to form a firm, neat texture instead of using 4ply wool. It is also used for bedspread in crochet. It is a thick versatile cotton and leaves a very neat appearance. Thank you for all your help and I look forward to enjoyed many projects aquired from your site.
Happy Easter to you and your family,
Kind regards
Elaine Johnstone

Thought you might enjoy knowing how I put this pattern to use -
We have lots of shepherd's crooks in out backyard. (This permits room for small bushes, flowering plants, etc. while leaving room for hanging plants.)

I simply made the cover larger and attached four hanging cords. What amazed me was the way visitors noticed that I had changed my plant holder pattern. Thank you so much for beautifying our landscape!

Love and Blessings,
DebbySue

JESUS IS WATCHING YOU
(Viewer Joke Submitted by Angela McElroy)

Late one night a robber broke into a dark house thinking it to be completely
empty. As he headed towards the master bedroom, he heard a voice.
"Jesus is watching you."
He paused, not sure what to think. When no other sounds followed, he
proceeded into the room. He reached one of the dressers, but before he
could open a drawer, he heard the same voice a little louder.
"Jesus Is Watching You."
He turned.
"Who said that?" He looked wildly about the room.
"Moses is watching you."
The voice seemed to be coming from the birdcage in the corner. He
approached it skeptically.
"Who's Moses?"
"I'm Moses," the bird answered, much to the robber's astonishment.
"What kind of person would name his bird Moses?"
The bird replied, "The same kind of person who would name his rottweiler
Jesus."

Biblical Bumper Stickers

* Adam: "You are what you eat."
* Eve: "At least he doesn't compare me to his mother."
* Abraham: "I'm goin' not knowin'. "
* Noah: "Honk if you believe in treading water."
* Moses: "From a basket case to the promised land."
* Balaam: "My second donkey talks!"
* At the Sinai desert: "Winding road next 40 years"
* At the Red Sea: "Caution! Subject to sudden flooding"

Back in the good old days of steam engines, a goober who had spent his whole
life in the desert comes to visit a friend. He'd never seen a train or the
tracks they run on.

While standing in the middle of the railroad tracks one day, he hears the
whistle,

"Whooee da Whoee!" but doesn't know what it is.

Predictably, he's hit -- but only a glancing blow -- and is thrown, to the side
of the tracks, with some minor internal injuries, a few broken bones, and some
bruises.

After weeks in the hospital recovering, he's at his friend's house attending a
party one evening.

While in the kitchen, he suddenly hears the tea kettle whistling. He grabs a
baseball bat from the nearby closet and proceeds to batter and bash the tea
kettle into an unrecognizable lump of metal.

His friend, hearing the ruckus, rushes into the kitchen, sees what's happened,
and asks the man from the desert, "Why did you ruin my good tea kettle?"

The desert man replies, "Man, you gotta kill these things when they're small!"

He/She'll Never Believe This!

While working for an organization that delivers lunches to elderly
shut-ins, I used to take my four-year-old daughter on my afternoon rounds.

She was unfailingly intrigued by the various appliances of old age,
particularly the canes, walkers and wheelchairs.

One day I found her staring at a pair of false teeth soaking in a glass.
As I braced myself for the inevitable barrage of questions, she merely
turned and whispered, "The tooth fairy will never believe this!"

Little Johnny sat playing in the garden.

When his mother came out to collect him, she saw that he was slowly eating a
worm.

She turned pale. "No, Johnny! Stop! That's horrible! You can't eat worms!"

Trying to convince him further she noted, "Now the mother worm is looking all
over for her nice baby worm."

"No, she isn't," said Johnny.

"How do you know she's not?" said the mother.

"Because I ate her first!" answered Little Johnny.

Jesus and Satan have an extended argument as to who is the better
computer programmer. Finally, they agree to hold a contest with God as the judge.
They set themselves before their computers and begin programming. Typing furiously
for several hours, they enter lines of code streaming across the screen.

Seconds before the end of the competition, a bolt of lightning strikes, taking out the electricity.
Moments later, the power is restored, and God announces that the contest has ended.

God asks Satan to show what he has done.
Satan is visibly upset and cries, "I have done nothing!
The power outage destroyed all of my work!"

"Very well, then," says God, "let us see how Jesus fared."
Jesus enters a command, and the screen comes to life in vivid displays of 3-D color.
The voices of an angelic choir pour forth from the speakers.

Satan is stunned and stutters, "But how?! How did he do that?!"

God chuckles, "Jesus Saves!"
